CEBU CITY ? Jhack Tepora reintroduced himself to the fans here in the country?s boxing capital with an impressive fifth round knockout win over Jason Tinampay in the main event of the inaugural presentation of the WHO?S NEXT? Pro Boxing Series.
The Omega gym southpaw known as the Golden Boy for his stellar amateur career here in the Philippines, captured the vacant WBO Youth Asia-Pacific super bantamweight title. His latest victory will also land him a top fifteen world ranking.
Tepora boxed cautiously at the start and was even tagged by a right hand lead from Tinampay in the third round. But Tepora turned up the heat in the fourth and sifted his offense to Tinampay?s midsection.
In the fifth, more body shots made Tinampay turn sideways and right and lefts to the ribs dropped him to the canvas. Referee Bruce McTavish reached the ten count at the 2:05 mark.
The last time Tepora appeared on a major fight card here in Cebu City was two years ago, on the undercard of Johnriel Casimero vs Mauricio Fuentes IBF world junior flyweight title bout at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel. Since then, Tepora has been fighting in towns like Dalaguete and Borbon, and the cities of Danao, Davao and Bacolod.
Omega Pro Sports announced last February their plan to raise their boxing program to a whole new level. This will certainly make fans more familiar with the talented Tepora, who now goes up to 17-0,12KO?s.
Tinampay drops to his third loss against seven wins.
In the main supporting bout, Tepora?s stablemate, Vergilio Silvano won a hard fought unanimous decision over Fernando Ocon of the RWS gym.
Scores ? Atty. William Manos ? 96-94, Edwin Barrientos ? 96-94, Arnie Najera ? 97-93.
The recently opened Robinson?s Galleria of Cebu City served as the venue for the fights held Sunday evening. The World Boxing Organization regional bout was supervised by WBO VP for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo.
?WHO?S NEXT?? was a free to the public boxing event presented by Omega Pro Sports International, International Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and powered by the all new 2016 Tucson in association with Hyundai, Omega Pro Pain Killer Liniment and Robinson?s Galleria. Major partners are Harley Davidson of Cebu and Y101 Rhythm Always First.
