PE?ALOSA GIVES 'BOOM BOOM' POINTERS TO BEAT DE LEON

Former WBC superfly champion Gerry Pe?alosa who is currently training for his shot at WBO bantam champ Jhonny Gonzalez, has given the undefeated Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista useful pointers to beat WBO superbantam king Daniel Ponce De Leon when they meet in the main event of the August 11 'World Cup' in Sacramento, California.

Pe?alosa is very familiar with De Leon, having fought and lost to the latter in a highly-disputed decision loss in their encounter four months ago at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Yesterday, Pe?alosa again sparred with Bautista for four rounds, and did another four against lightweight Ricky Quiles.

"While they were both on the speedball, Gerry shared his experience against Ponce De Leon," a source from the Wild Card Gym said.

Pe?alosa pointed out to Bautista the right strategy on how to get through De Leon, as well as the right defensive tactics so as not to get hit by De Leon's haymakers.

"Gerry told Boom Boom that when you look at De Leon's punches, they would seem like slaps, but he warned Boom Boom that those punches hurt because he uses his knuckles," the source added.

Pe?alosa then advised Bautista to fight smart, and use his speed against the reigning champion.

"You cannot allow your no-fear attitude to take over you, as well as your emotion. Use your head and the right tactics," Penalosa was quoted as telling the Boholano prodigy.

Pe?alosa also warned Bautista that De Leon would bully him in the first two rounds, but then when he gets hit, he tends to box from a distance.

"Susugurin ka nyan parang toro, pero pag tumama ka sa kanya, magbo-boksing yan," Pe?alosa explained.

Pe?alosa then summarized that in order to beat De Leon, the key is for Bautista to have a good game plan, keep his hands up and be patient throughout the 12-round bout.

Both Bautista and Pe?alosa are seeing action on the August 11 'World Cup' in Sacramento against De Leon and Gonzalez, respectively in the co-main event.
