Magsayo-Avalos set as main undercard
CEBU CITY ? Cebuano boxing fans, the most passionate in the country, will have something to cheer about because the world title fight between defending WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr against No. 4 contender Zsolt Bedak of Hungary scheduled on April 23, has been moved to the Cebu from its original venue at Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, this was announce by ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer during the 'Pinoy Pride 35: Stars of the Future' press conference held at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino Thursday afternoon.
?We've talked with Top Rank and ABS-CBN, we have decided to put up the [Donaire-Bedak] fight card in Cebu,? Aldeguer said who also revealed that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has confirmed his attendance which will mark the first time the hall of fame promoter will set foot in the boxing-crazy island.
This will also mark the first time for Donaire, who is under promotional contract with Top Rank, to fight in front of his Cebuano fans.
The venue will be the open-air Cebu City Sports Complex which could be configured to seat upwards to 20,000. The complex was used during the Montiel-Gorres WBO world super flyweight title fight on February 24, 2007 that was filled to the rafters.
Tabbed to fight in the main undercard is undefeated rising star Mark 'Magnifico' Magsayo who will face two-time world title challenger Chris Avalos of the United States, provided of course that Magsayo will come out victorious of his WBO youth featherweight championship fight against Eduardo Montoya of Mexico this Saturday.
Although Avalos has been released by Top Rank a few days ago, Aldeguer assured that they already have a verbal agreement with the Avalos camp to make the fight. ?After Magsayo wins on Saturday, we will send them the contract,? Aldeguer said.
