GGG ENCROACHING ON THE MAYWEATHER BRAND?

Now that the self-proclaimed TBE has ?retired? (or so he says), another fighter with a huge potential to be a crossover star has emerged. And, he maybe poised to surpass Floyd Mayweather Jr. because he is classy, has no well-publicized issues with women, no jail record and is generally a great guy.
His name is Gennady G. Golovkin, the 33 -year old native of Karaganda, Kazakhstan who is currently the IBO and WBC Middleweight and the WBA Super Middleweight World Champion.
Golovkin is undefeated with a 34-0-0, 31 KO record. At the rate he is going, I would not doubt he will surpass the record of Mayweather Jr. And when that happens, I am sure it will be better appreciated by the boxing world because it does not carry the stigma of ?cherry picking? opponents.
With his scintillating knockout victory over the well-respected Canadian middleweight, David Lemeiux who before he fought Golovkin had only two losses in 33 fights , 31 of which ended in KO, Golovkin?s brand shot up exponentially!
Golovkin?s fight with Lemieux was his first PPV on HBO and it drew reportedly only a respectable 150,000 but a great live gate. However, the modest stats brought him out top the attention of many boxing fans that will potentially buy his next PPV fights.
With his rising star, Golovkin recently snag an endorsement deal from Apple. It does not take an Einstein to know that huge companies like Apple do their homework before they seek endorsement from sports figures. Their signing of Golovkin shows that the now three-title belts world champion is a credible endorser and a potential cross over star that can generate huge business for the company. With Apple signing him, I am sure more companies will follow suit. That is simply the norm in the business.
Mayweather Jr. is ?retired?, but in my opinion he is that type of a guy with a lot of ?ego? and may eventually come out of retirement again in an attempt to cool down the rising star of Golovkin. He may likely do so because he adores his record and would not like anyone getting close to it and potentially getting even with it or surpass it , if he can help it at all.
The only way to do that is fight and beat Golovkin, thus permanently eliminating the threat to his beloved undefeated record. In fact, he may even fight one more time to try and get another win just to make it more difficult for Golovkin to equal his record.
With a Mayweather win over Golovkin, the latter?s rising star will diminish just a bit but enough to prevent him from claiming Mayweather?s record.
