AMONSOT IS NOW IN L.A. TO PREPARE FOR KATSIDIS

Los Angeles -- WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight champ, Czar Amonsot came to town yesterday after a long trip from Cebu and an overnight stop in Las Vegas.

Amonsot is in town on a mission. That mission is to bring home a world title for his family and most especially for his benefactor, Antonio “ALA” Aldeguer of the famed ALA Gym in Cebu.

Many pundits believe that Amonsot’s battle for the WBO Interim Lightweight title against Michael Katsidis of Australia who sports a record of 22 wins with 20 KO’s is one that can be best described as “rowing against the stream.” It will be grueling but doable.

Team Amonsot believes that he has an excellent chance to dethrone the champ from Down Under. Otherwise, they would not have taken the fight. Aldeguer who heads the team is a savvy fight manager. If he does not believe Amonsot has better than 90% chance of winning a title fight, he would not allow him in the ring. We all saw that with Z Gorres and now we are seeing it with Boom Boom Bautista and Czar Amonsot.

Amonsot has been in training for several weeks as he was supposed to defend his regional WBO title on July 7 at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu. But, when the Katsidis’ fight at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California was cancelled last month due to a hand injury to his opponent, an opportunity came about and Team Amonsot took advantage of it. They dumped the July 7 WBO regional title fight and accepted the world title fight with Katsidis on July 21st.

One thing that is again apparent as it was during the Gorres’ fight, is the way the Aldeguer-led Team Amonsot is handling their fighter. Aside from the intense training in Cebu, Amonsot will further hone his skills at the Wildcard Gym of Freddie Roach.

But before that happens, they made sure that the little details are taken cared of properly. That includes completing the required medical check-up first before jumping in to continue serious training at the Wildcard Gym. In addition to the medical check up, today they visited the dental office of this writer for the fitting of a new mouth guard.

The Katsidis-Amonsot tiff is a main supporting event to the Hopkins-Wright thriller dubbed by the Golden Boy Promotions and HBO as “ Coming to Fight” on July 21, 2007 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Judging from how Team Amonsot is preparing their fighter, indeed Czar Amomsot is coming to fight!
