SUDDEN RAIN BURST ENDS ALA FIGHTERS TRAINING (PHOTO / VIDEO)

Today was a typical autumn day in LA. Hot at the peak of day and cold at night. Oftentimes is 85 degree F during the day and at night it dips to the low 60?s. But that is all too common in LA. On top of that, occasionally, it will suddenly rain.

And, that?s exactly what happened late this afternoon.

At about 4:30 p.m. I drove to the Pan Pacific Park at the Wilshire District in LA, an area made famous by an upscale shopping complex called the Grove and the iconic Farmer?s Market right across the giant CBS Studios.

Coach Edito Villamor informed me that the boys are at Pan Pacific doing their flat terrain distance running followed by 10 consecutive sprints of 100 yards each.

The fabulous LA traffic held me back so I missed the distance running. But I was in time for the boys to start their timed sprints.

The ALA fighters, WBO World flyweight champion Donnie Nietes, The Pagara brothers, Albert and Jason and Mark Magsayo were just getting started for the first of the 10 sprints they were supposed to do.

At the command of Coach Edmund Villamor, all together the boys broke to a furious sprint from the designated starting point 100 yards away. Coach Villamor was at the half way point watching their running techniques while Coach Edmund was at the finish line with his trusted stopwatch.

I timed the boys as they run but I decided not to share that here because I know we have plenty of Mexican readers who may potentially pass that info to their compatriots. That of course will not be fair.

Suffice it to say. The boys were fast. Very fast indeed.

But as nature has it, after their 5th sprint, dark clouds suddenly flew in from the direction of the Santa Monica Bay and it dropped a short sudden rain that effectively ended the sprints.

Coach Edito at the sign of the first drops of rain ordered the boys back to the car. ?Okay na yun 5 sets of sprints? he said. I rather end it so the boys don?t get caught in the rain and potentially catch a cold or something?, he said.

What was interesting to note was presence at the park the ALA Boxing CEO himself, the youthful Michael Aldeguer. He too was in running gear and drenched in sweat.

Setting good examples and keeping an eye on his boys, I am sure.
