Facing an opponent who had previously knocked you out is one the hardest tasks in the sport of boxing. Boxers are human. They will have to deal with a myriad of emotions going into a fight.
The first fight between Daryl Basadre (14-2-1,10KO?s) and Kenny Demecillo (9-3-1,6KO?s) was stopped with Basadre having a good opening round but was caught with a left hook in the second. The way it was stopped may have been controversial, with Team Basadre insisting their boxer should have been given the benefit of the doubt, especially with a WBA Oceania belt at stake. But the TKO win will obviously give Demecillo an air of confidence when they meet again at the Gaisano Mall Atrium of Gen. Santos City on September 26. The WBF Int?l bantamweight belt will be also be an added incentive for both boxers.
Promoter Jim Claude Manangquil of Sanman Promotions told this writer that Basadre sparred for four rounds Friday afternoon. ?He looks sharp and ready. 100 percent already. His mental preparation is ok. We remind him to relax and just stick to the gameplan.?
"FISTFEST SA GLAN" SET OCTOBER 7
Ronie Tanallon vs Lester John Pronco will headline another SANMAN PROMOTIONS boxing event in Glan, Sarangani Province. They will be fighting for the vacant Philippine minimumweight title.
In the supporting main event will feature former world title challenger Jether Oliva going up against Romulo Ramayan in an 8 round super-flyweight tussle.
Also to see action on the undercards will be slugger Romero Duno vs former WBO Asia Pacific champion Eusebio Baluarte and Vince Paras with a yet to be announced opponent. The fighters of SANMAN Boxing?s amateur program will serve as the curtain raisers.
The world's youngest boxing promoter Jim Claude Manangquil has partnered with the Local Government of Glan headed by Mayor Victor James Yap in line with the municipality's annual fiesta celebration, Lubi-Lubi Festival. This fight card is slated on October 7.
"SANMAN Promotions is happy to announce that we have been contacted by the Municipality of Glan to partner with them and do a boxing show to promote not just the sport but the fighters as well." Manangquil stated in his e-mail to philboxing. "We at SANMAN Promotions are excited as it is part of our organizations thrust to encourage the kids especially the out of school ones to get them interested in the sport and maybe get them back to studying and school through sports scholarships in the future. It is our way of giving them a chance in life and a future."
