FOOTNOTES FROM THE MAYWEATHER-BERTO FIGHT

MGM Grand Las Vegas, NV:- After everything has been said and done by the media folks who saw the fight live at this venue and still by many more who saw it via the ShowTime PPV and live streaming, a few interesting things this writer observed that are perhaps worth talking about.
First the Weigh-In -
There were considerable far less fans at the weigh-in- far from those that attended the FMJ-Pacquiao fight. The crowd last May 1 was a ?turn-away? crowd and those that got in had to pay $10 to do so. Last Friday, there far fewer fans and many seats were vacant in spite of the seating arrangement being reconfigured so as not to show too many vacancies on live TV.
Second- the ?attendance at the MGM Grand:
According to Lisa Milner of the Swanson Communications, there were 13,395 present at the venue. However, from the standards set by the other fights of Mayweather, that number was far below what was expected. For instance, the Mayweather-Guerrero fight drew 15,880.
And, there was no clarification as to how many of those in attendance paid their own tickets. I say this because there were a number of kids 12 years and younger that were inside the venue supposedly to watch the fight. But I am sure less than a handful of the kids knew exactly what was happening. It was also the very first time that kids at that age level were present in that number at a Mayweather fight or any other major fight at the MGM.
Word is Floyd paid for the tickets of the kids. Would that have happened if the ticket sales were like those at the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight?

Early Saturday noon there was also a long line at the MGM Casino Host Offices. Those in line were the casino medium to high rollers and were there for the free fight tickets courtesy of the MGM. We heard a lot of those folks had their seat upgraded because there were so many unsold tickets.
Third- the media.
There were far fewer media folks present at the fight. In fact when I got my temporary credentials last Friday, there were only 4 guys in front of me. What was interesting to note that they run out of temporary credentials not because there were too many who were asking for them but rather, according to the guy at the distribution center, they printed far less since not too many applied for credentials.

Fourth- Security
The MGM today appeared to have the same number of uniformed security as when the Pacquiao and Maidana fights occurred.
And, to avoid the stampede that happened in the last two fights of Mayweather, the fans that were leaving the venue after the fight were ushered to different exit doors. This prevented the horde from getting bottlenecked at the narrow hall ways leading to the casino floor - one of the many causes of the aforementioned stampedes.
Fifth- The fight itself.
Much to the credit of Mayweather, he did not elect to stick and run like what he did with the Pacquiao fight. He engaged Berto on many occasions and only attempted to run in the dying end of round 11 and 12.
And Berto deserve lots of credit too. He stood his ground and gave a good account of himself. On a few occasions he even landed some nice hits too. And, he proved me right when I said he will be lucky to win more than two rounds
Sixth- The retirement
Mayweather announced that he was done. But this writer is one of the skeptics who believe that he will be coming back in 2106. Hopefully he would have enough balls to meet GGG who signified his willingness to go down to 154, a weight Mayweather easily can achieve as he walks around just a couple of pound under 154. A Mayweather-GGG fight I am sure will surpass the numbers generated by the May-Pac last May2, 2015.
