WASHINGTON D.C. The Charlotte Hornets will keep forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist beyond the 2015-16 season.

According to the Charlotte Observer, the Hornets have inked the 6-foot-7 forward to a four-year contract extension worth $52 million. Kidd-Gilchrist, 21, has one-year and $6.3 million left in his original rookie contract.

Kidd-Gilchrist was the No.2 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, right behind fellow University of Kentucky alum Anthony Davis who was the top pick that year. Davis has since become a star with the New Orleans Pelicans and recently signed a contract extension for $145 million.

Kidd-Gilchrist appeared in 55 games last season and averaged 10.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per. Per ESPN stats, the Hornets won just 6 of the 27 games he missed last season, making him an extremely valuable member of the team.
