CEBU CITY ? Late sub Rodel Tejares gave Canoy J. Singwangcha a lot of trouble in the early going but Canoy eventually found his range and used a hard body shot to drop Tejares in the eighth round.

Tejares got up but turned his back still in pain prompting Referee Ben Necesario to stop the contest at the 1:38 mark. The diminutive southpaw otherwise known as Joey Canoy could not find his range against the taller Tejares. Accidental clashes of heads also marred the bout; something that is common in southpaw vs orthodox match-ups. Canoy used his speed advantage to close the gap.

In the fourth, Tejares complained of being hurt inside his mouth after an accidental headbutt. But after the action resumed, he was deducted a point for using his elbow on Canoy?s cheekbone. Canoy turned up the heat and was pitching a shutout in the judges? scores prior to the stoppage.

He was awarded the Asia Boxing Federation (ABF) miniflyweight title by Thai boxing patron Naris Singwangcha and Promoter Rex ?Wakee? Salud.

Canoy is now 10-1-1, 4Ko?s. Tejares drops to 20-35-6,5Ko?s.

Boyose (R) looks for an opening against Ancamor.

In the main supporting bout, Boyose A. Singwangcha (Ardie Boyose) won by TKO in the second round against Phil Angcamor. Angcamor?s low crouch did not save him from suffering a knockdown in the opening round. In the second, Boyose dropped him again with a series of head and body shots. He got up but Referee Teddy Alivio correctly stopped the fight as Angcamor was in no condition to continue. Time 0:14.

Joaquino E. Singwangcha (Elias Joaquino) beat Marlon Talili by TKO in the first round. Heavy hooks sent Talili to the canvas twice. Referee Romar Embodo called a halt at the 1:45 mark. Dignos M. Singwangcha (Melmark Dignos) won a hard fought split decision after six rounds against Ponciano Rimandiman. It was a tight give and take contest punctuated by well placed shots to the body and head. In a fiery final round, both boxers threw caution to the winds in their effort to land a homerun punch.

The judges? scores ? Salven Lagumbay- 58-56 for Rimandiman, Arnie Najera and Arnel Pasion had it 58-56 for Dignos.

Jimenez throws a right uppercut on Libres.

In a battle of southpaws, Junriel Jimenez prevailed by unanimous decision over Roga Libres after six rounds. Jimenez scored a knockdown in round four but Libres managed to hang tough and heard the final bell. Scores ? S.Lagumbay ? 60-54,A.Najera ? 60-53,A.Pasion ? 59-54.

The fight cared billed as BINUKBUKAY SA PUNTA PRINCESA was opened by three amateur contests and was held Sunday at the Barangay Punta Princesa Atillo Gym.

NEW BOXING QUARTERS FOR SINGWANGCHA BOXERS

A few hours before the boxing promotion was started, the newly built and spacious quarters for the boxers of Team Singwangcha was opened with the traditional blessing of a Catholic priest followed by a sumptuous dinner.

The facility was financed by Thai boxing patron and promoter Naris Singwangcha and is located near the Rex ?Wakee? Salud gym in Labangon, Cebu City. Promoter Aljoe Jaro also attended the opening of the boxers? quarters which is going to be a big boost for their fighters.
