CEBU CITY ? Responding to the press announcement by promoter Sampson Lewkowicz that his promotional company has signed up 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao's cousin Jonel 'The Kid Pacquiao' Dapidran, Nonoy Neri, Pacquiao's long time assistant trainer and trainer/manager of MP Boxing Gym, informed Philboxing that Dapidran still has an ongoing contract with MP Boxing Gym.

?Nakakontrata pa yong bata, kaya yong pinapirma nila kay Jonel ay walang bisa (The kid is still under contract [with us] so whatever he has signed up with others is invalid),? Neri said.

Dapidran, 17, has a record of six wins in as many bouts with three knockouts. Standing at 5'9?, Dapidran fights in the lightweight and junior welterweight divisions. His fights were done under the MP Promotions banner.

Neri said Dapidran has a 4-year contract under MP Boxing Gym that became effective on Nov. 11, 2014 and that he has informed the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) office in Manila about this development.

PACQUIAO DISPLEASED.

Neri also informed that boxing legend and Philippine congressman Manny Pacquiao was displeased by this development. ?Parang iniinsulto siya (He felt insulted),? Neri said.

Neri said he has heard that those who signed up Dapidran reasoned out that they were signing Dapidran for a promotional contract only and not as managers. ?Niistorya unta sila namo kay kami man ang managers (They should have negotiated with us because we are the managers),? Neri said. Neri also said that since Pacquiao has a promotional company, it goes without saying that all boxers under MP Boxing Gym should fight under the MP Promotions banner.

Meanwhile, Sammy Gello-ani, Sampson Lewkowicz's local partner, told Philboxing that Dapidran approached them for help so he can get fights overseas. ?Dapidran told us he has no contract with Neri and that he's got his Kuya Manny's (Pacquiao) consent to talk to other promoters,? Gello-ani said. ?Lewkowicz has been very generous to Filipino boxers and he has always wanted to help them so we arranged that Dapidran could fight abroad. They should be happy and I am happy that Dapidran will get good fights abroad,? Gello-ani said.
