Australian golfer, Jason Day on Sunday August 16th won the US 2015 Professional Golf Association?s championship held at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin. In the process he took home the Wannamaker Trophy, the symbol of PGA golf supremacy.

The win was incredible but it was overshadowed by the amazing story that led to the victory for Day.

The native of Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia, Day?s win was a double whammy for him. He set a record with a score of 20 under par, the first time a PGA title was won with such an amazing score; and it was also his first major win as a professional golfer. Day beat golf?s present No. 1 player, American Jordan Spieth by three strokes, a feat that in itself is astounding.

The victory overwhelmed the young Aussie that he broke down and cried after sinking his last putt to win the title.

When Day was 12, his father Alvin Day unfortunately passed away. He recalls the hardship that followed their family?s life after that including having no hot shower at home and his mom had to improvise by heating water in kettles so they can take hot showers.

His mother, Dening Day of the Philippines had to work on double jobs just so she can afford to support the family and send Jason to a boarding school to keep him away from trouble and get him the guidance he needs as a growing young man.

Dening Day had to work on the day the championships was being held, so she did not get a chance to see her son win the title but she kept herself informed of the progress of the game.

But be that as it may, the win once again demonstrated what a mother?s love and sacrifice could do, provided the children do their part.

It was not a surprise that Day?s success was largely due to his mother?s sacrifices. Filipina mothers are known for that. They go all out to support their kids even past the kids? 18th birthday, something that most western mothers will not. It?s just the culture, I guess.

Jason Day did that exactly what his mom wanted him to do. He listened to his coach and mentor Colin Swatton who guided him from his younger days as a junior golfer.

And, at Wisconsin on a nice, warm summer day, all the great sacrifices paid off. Jason Day won the championships and in the process set a new record for PGA.
