LOS ANGELES -- Television giant ESPN held a celebrity basketball game on the evening of August 7 to honor the late sportscaster Stuart Scott.

The friendly hoops tiff, which benefitted the Stuart Soctt Memorial Cancer Research Fund at The V Foundation, drew several celebrities that included actor Josh Duhamel (Transformers, Safe Haven), actor Jerry Ferrara (Entourage, Think Like A Man), pro boxer Sugar Shane Mosley, singer/songwriter Ryan Cabrera and former NBA star Corey Maggette.

ESPN personalities Marcellus Wiley and Michelle Beadle, who co-host SportsNation, were also in attendance. The event was sold-out and PhilBoxing was credentialed to the event.

After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Scott passed away on January 4 this year. He was only 49.

Scott, a University of North Carolina alum, was an extremely popular and beloved figure who provided a passionate voice on his SportsCenter broadcasts. Among the many catch phrases he popularized included "boo-yah!!!" and "as cool as the other side of the pillow."

The participating celebrities played their hearts out, resulting in a very competitive match. Asked if he was feeling okay after a hectic first half, Marcellus Wiley jokingly quipped, "the obvious lack of oxygen can be seen, but I won't give up!"

Wiley also playfully told this writer that ESPN boxing guru Max Kellerman was at his home sleeping while trying to duck the controversy that visited Kellerman's interview with Manny Pacquiao after the May 2 Mayweather fight.

Ben Lyons, an ESPN sports commentator and E! News personality emerged as the MVP.

On a game where the scores didn't really matter, everyone went home a winner, especially The Cancer Research Fund.
