LA FIGHT CLUB AUGUST 2015 ? KNOCKOUTS GALORE!

Belasco Theater, Downtown LA:- It could easily been due to the exuberant attitude of the fighters or even the possible one-sided matchmaking, but tonight the bouts for the August version of the monthly Golden Boy Promotions show called LA Fight Club resulted in something special. Six of the 7 fights on the card ended in a stoppage in some form or another.
Of course it goes without saying that the crowd that included the Argentine bomber, Lucas Matthysee was more than riled up by the fights. The atmosphere was electric and the venue was rocking even without radio personality ?Tatoo? who was entertaining the crowd between fights by showering them with t-shirts and autographed gloves.
The evening started with a Robert Garcia trained debutant to the pro ranks, Joshua Franco of San Antonio, Texas against a fellow newbie, Temoatzin Landeros of Tijuana Mexico. The four round fight was rather uneventful but was punctuated by some rough house exchanges typical of newcomers to the sport. In the end, the fight ended with Franco winning with the scores of 40-36, 39-36, and 36-40.

The next fight was between Pablo Rubio (2-0-0,2KO) of East LA who was matched against another debutant in Martin Regalado. Rubio dropped Regalado in round 1 and went on to win via a 4th round TKO at 33 seconds of the canto when the referee decided that Regalado has had enough.

The third fight was between two lightweights, Francisco Ochoa of LA (2-0-0,1KO) who took merely one round and a half minute to stop Marquis Pierce of Newark, NJ (1-7-0,0KO). Time was 30 seconds in round 2.

The opening TV bout was a super lightweight fight between yet another debutant to the pro ranks, Jonathan Navarro of East LA and Andrew Gomez (0-2-0,0KO) of Galveston, Texas. Navarro proved to be vastly superior over Gomez. He knocked him down twice in round one, the second time more vicious than the first leading the ref to stop the fight at 1:03 of the round. For whatever its worth, Navarro was trained by Robert Garcia.

The second TV bout was supposed to be a four rounder between Hector Tanajara Jr of San Antonio, Texas and a guy from Grand Rapid Michigan, Thomas de Leon (0-3-0,0KO). De Leon from all appearances, did not look like a fighter but rather a tuk-tuk driver. He lasted exactly 74 seconds. He was downed in the first minute and again as the second minute came around. De Leon was helpless and down in all fours after the second knockdown seemingly in great agony and did not beat the count.

In the supporting main event, unbeaten East LA favorite, Roy ?Pitbull? Tapia ( 11-0-2, 6KO) beat Juan Luis Hernandez of Tijuana, MX (18-6-1,9KO) via a third round KO. Tapia dropped Hernandez towards the end of round 2 and stretched him out in the third round. Time 1:49.

In the huge main event, unbeaten Abraham Lopez of nearby La Puente, CA (19-0-1, 14 KO) wins over Jorge Diaz of New Brunswick, NJ (18-4-1 (10KO)
The fight appears even, even after flash knockdown ruled by the referee as ?fighter touching his knee on the canvas? suffered by Diaz in round one. But after the first third of the fight, Lopez methodically chased and broke down Diaz with heavy upper cuts and looping rights to the body and head.
The thudding hits to the body eventually led Diaz to quit on his stool before round 10 started.
