MACAU ? Moments ago, the Filipino Flash Nonito Donaire Jr made short work of Anthony Settoul of France, sending the French three times to the canvas en route to a second round stoppage victory by the comebacking Donaire at the CotaiArena at The Venetian Macao here Saturday night.
Donaire, two fights removed from his knockout loss to Nicholas Walters in Carson, CA on Oct. 18, 2014, connected with a lead right early in the opening round that set the tempo of the fight. Settoul, fighting only for the second time outside his native France, went down with a liver shot from Donaire's vaunted left midway in the round and was in the canvas again towards the end of the first round with another body shot by Donaire.
Sensing the end of the bout is near, Donaire circled in towards his prey as Settoul tried to box in the second round but a beautiful counter right by Donaire hit Settoul's head that sent the French to the canvas once more. Settoul's corner immediately threw in the towel afterwards forcing Referee Danrex Tapdasan to stop the contest at 1:41 of the second round.
Donaire, who won 8 titles in 5 divisions, improved his record to 35 wins, 3 losses with 23 stoppages. Settoul dropped to 20-4-0 with 8 knockouts.
