Belasco Theater, Downtown LA:- The July 2015 version of the monthly Golden Boy Promotions at this iconic theater was very short. But, it was full of action that kept the crowd on its feet, cheering every punch and every round. Tonight?s crowd was one of the most receptive ever in the short history of the LA Fight Club fights.
In the main event (top photo) super lightweight Gilberto ?Flaco? Gonzalez of Mexico City (26-3-0, 21KO) survived an injured foot that made him limp after an accidental fall near his opponent?s corner in the middle of round 2. Gonzalez like a true Mexican warrior that he is, simply sucked up the pain and went on with the fight after he informed the ring doctor that he is good to go.
Sensing perhaps that he may not survive his injured foot for the long stretch, Gonzalez upped his punch volume and attacked his opponent, Hevinson Herrera of Barranquilla, Columbia (17-11-1, 11KO) and chased him to all corners as round three started. A series of combinations from Gonzalez made Herrera reel around the ropes at times helpless and at times throwing a punch or two. After a one-two combination that landed squarely, the referee saw enough and stepped in to stop the fight. Time 1:49 Round 3.
Diego de la Hoya (R) connects on Estrella.
In the supporting main event, Diego de la Hoya of Mexicalli, MX (11-0-0, 7KO) kept his record clean via a 4th round stoppage of Jose Estella of Tijuana, MX. (14-7-1.10KO).
De la Hoya however did not have an easy fight. Estrella came to fight and fight he did. He was able to land some neat punches throughout the fight but as the fight went on, it was clear he was not going to win it unless he lands a haymaker. Referee Lou Moret waved off the fight at 2:36 of round 4 giving de la Hoya a victory to the delight of his huge followers. Time 2:36.
In the featured TV fight, Oscar Negrete of Los Angeles (11-0-0, 3KO) extended his march to victory via a wide unanimous decision over a very game and very tough Ramiro Robles of Guanajuato, MX (12-4-1, 6KO). The judges? score were 80-72,79-73, and 79-73.
In the TV swing bout, Melsik Baghdasaryan of Glendale, CA (2-0-0, 1KO) won a very easy fight against Abraham Calderon of Los Angeles (0-2-0,0KO) who was trained by ex-world champion Israel Vasquez. Scores were a;; 40-36.
In the curtain raiser, Emilio Sanchez of Los Angeles (9-0-0,6KO) won via a UD over a journey man. Jos? CenTorres of Merida, MX ( 13-8-0, 1KO) Scores were 60-54,59-55 and 58-56.
For whatever it?s worth one of the judges in all the fights was Filipino judge, Jony Davis of Buena Park, CA.
