GOLOVKIN STOPS WILLIE MONROE IN SIX

Great Western Forum, Inglewood, CA:- Whoever said that boxing was dealt a final blow with the charade that Floyd Mayweather put up against a one handed Manny Pacquiao, can now rest easy.
First, Canelo Alvarez last weekend showed that the sport can be revived with a good performance. That is exactly what he did with a brutal KO of the very game and aggressive James Kirkland at Houston, Texas.
Tonight at this historic venue made famous by Fabulous Lakers led by Jabbar, Johnson et al, Gennady Golovkin of Karaganda, Kazakhstan, kept his record immaculate (33-0-0, 30KO) via a clinical disintegration of Willie ?The Mongoose? Monroe of Rochester, NY (19-2-0-6KO).
Golovkin dropped Monroe twice in round 2 but was not able to finish the New Yorker who exhibited great determination and heart despite the very huge odds against him.
In fact, Monroe gathered his wits and staged a small rally in round four hitting Golovkin with well placed straights snapping the head of the undefeated champion.
But the tide started to turn again in round 5 and into round sixth.

Golovkin dropped Monroe again after a series of combinations as the round started in round six. Monroe got up to beat the count but after a short conversation with referee Jack Reisse, Monroe stated that ?I'm done? and the fight was waved off at 47 seconds of the round.
With that the crowd exploded with their chants of ?Triple G, triple G? as the champion was carried around the ring by his trainer, Abel Sanchez.
Monroe who was a southpaw was expected to give Golovkin more of a fight compared to the rest who are now part of Golovkin?s knockout record. He had some moments he can be proud off like demonstrating that Golovkin can be hit. But tonight he was just not at the same class as the world champion from Kazakhstan.
Who now lurks in Golovkin?s immediate future?
Miguel Cotto for one. But the Puerto Rican I am sure will think twice before he will sign the dotted line to meet Golovkin. The risk is too high and the rewards small.
Canelo Alvarez perhaps? Not this early. Maybe after a couple more fights like the Kirkland fight, Canelo will be ready. Let?s just sit and wait.
Andre Ward? Maybe and he is projected to give Golovkin the best run for his money. But Ward has so many issues and maybe rusty due to inactivity, so a fight with Golovkin may not even happen.
Incidentally, the KO of Monroe is the 20th consecutive KO scored by Golovkin. That alone should scare the hell out of Mayweather. Besides, GGG is too big for FMJ and the latter does not deserve a fight with a classy guy like GGG. He may turn it into another dance without music in the background.
Other results:
WBC flyweight champion Roman ?Chocolatito? Gonzalez of Managua, Nicaragua (43-0-0, 36KO) scored a brilliant 2nd round KO of former world champion and highly ranked challenger, the veteran Edgar Sosa of Mexico City. (51-9-0, 30KO)
Gonzalez dropped the very game and elusive Sosa three times in round two and the fight ended quickly. Time was 2:37 of round 2.

Ivan Morales of Tijuana, MX (28-0-0,16 KO) won a lackluster fight over Danny Flores of Mexico City (14-7-1,8KO) via a questionable premature stoppage at 47 seconds of round 8th. Morales even with his undefeated record is a far cry from his famous brother, Erik Morales.
Pedro Duran of Paramount, CA (11-0-0,8KO) won via a TKO over Daniel Perales of Monterey City, MX (5-2-0,3KO) in round 6th. Fight was stopped 10 seconds before the end of the six round fight to the disgust of the crown
In a fight between two women gladiators, Seniesa Estrada of East LA 4-0-0.1KO) dropped Carly Batey of San Diego (4-5-2, 0KO in round 5 but could not finish he off and had to settle with a majority decision with scores as follows: 58-55,57-56 and 58-58.
In the curtain raiser, Ruslan Mediyev of Karanganda, Kazakhstan (5-0-0,3KO) drew first blood by scoring a KD via a wicked body shot in round 1. Then in round two a huge right hand dropped Julio Sanchez again and the fight was over. Time 21 seconds round 2.
The announced attendance was more than 12,700.
