LOS ANGELES -- Mercito Gesta, a young featherweight described by PhilBoxing’s Salven Lagumbay as “the sweet punching dynamo who is a natural warrior with smooth movements and tremendous lateral skills” is alive and well at Hollywood’s Wildcard Gym.
Gesta was spotted today by this writer quietly going over his required routines with the speed bags, the jumping rope and the heavy bag.
He also sparred a few rounds with the regulars at the Wildcard under the watchful eyes of Freddie Roach.
Mike Koncz was there by his side too helping out the best way he can.
With the involvement of Koncz, who is a trusted ally of Bob Arum, Gesta’s proposed inclusion on the undercard of the June 9, 2007 Miguel Cotto-Zab Judah thriller at New York’s Madison Square Garden is becoming more and more a possibility .

Gesta has no announced opponent as of this writing.
In spite of that, Gesta indicated that he is hot to go. “I have not fought for a long time so I am really anxious to get on the ring. I will fight anyone they put before me”, Gesta said.
Gesta is now managed by Terry Lee Carter. He sports a record of 10 -0-1 (3KO).
