MACAU ? In a world title fight where the champion refused to fight and whose strategy was to counter and hold and with a challenger who was not taking much risk nd not throwing that many punches, even jabs, the much hyped boxing event at The Venetian's CotaiArena here Saturday night between defending champion Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand and challenger Zou Shiming of China turned out to be a stinker of a fight with Ruenroeng retaining his IBF flyweight belt after the three judges gave identical scores of 116-111 in favor to the champion.
The only drama of the fight was when Shiming scored a questionable knockdown in the second round where the outbalanced Thai appeared to slip after being grazed by a punch. Otherwise the fight turned out to be a waiting chess match, and when Shiming goes into an attack mode, Ruenroeng immediately grabs and hold.
Not even the continuous chant of the full-packed pro-Shiming Chinese crowd could help turn the fight into an exciting match who inflicted Zou Shiming's first professional loss out of seven professional fights. Ruenroeng goes home with his belt intact and remained undefeated at 15-0 with 5 knockouts and with the way he fights, may be very difficult to unseat.
More to come ...
