Brandon 'Bambam' Rios (R) destroyed Mike Alvarado at the 1st Bank Center in Bloomfield, Colorado Saturday night to win their rubber match in a devastating fashion and captured the WBO International Welterweight title.
Rios pummeled Alvarado with hooks and uppercuts all night that completely put Alvarado out of the loop and saw Alvarado with rubbery legs towards the end of the second round.
A combination to the head and an uppercut sent Alvarado to the canvas in the 3rd round and it appeared Rios was ready to take out Alvarado any time after that. Alvarado survived the third round but upon the recommendation of the ring physician, Referee Jay Nady did not allow Alvarado to continue the fight.
Rios, who lost to Manny Pacquiao in November last year in a dominant fashion, is now looking to make a strong combeback in the welterweight divsion said after the fight, "a new and improved Bambam Rios is coming your way, baby."
Rios improved to 33-2-1 with 24 knockouts while Alvarado dropped to his third straight defeat with a record of 34-4-0.
