CEBU CITY- A battle for the vacant Philippine super flyweight title will serve as the inaugural presentation of ALA Promotions and Cobra Energy Drink?s nationwide boxing tour for 2015.
Undefeated prospect Melvin ?Top Gun? Gumban (18W-0L,9KO?s) of the ALA Gym will be pitted against Weljan Ugbaniel (13W-2L-1D,4KO?s) of Sarangani in the twelve round main event this Sunday at the Gaisano Country Mall Parking Area.
The protagonists promised fans a good and entertaining bout during the press conference held Friday at the Sugbahan Restaurant in Mandaue City. Gumban and Ugbaniel stated that they trained for months for this opportunity to fight for the Philippine championship.
Ugbaniel also said that he wants to win this belt for his family. Gumban is a four year pro and belongs to a stable full of stars. He said that he is ready to make the next step in his career in his quest for his first title.
The Philippine 115 lb. division title was held by Marco Demecillo of the RWS gym but his last defense was on August 17,2013.
Also slated to see action are Elmo ?Bisdak? Traya (6-1,5KO?s) vs Giovani Rota (7-7-1,4KO?s) in a non-titel 8 round bout. Traya, who has a high KO percentage, said that he will try to go for a knockout for the fans.
There will be six more bouts on the undercards. The official weigh-in on Saturday noon will also be at the Gaisano Country Mall. Fight night on January 18 will start at 6PM. This boxing promotion will coincide with the grand parade of the widely popular Sinulog Festival of Cebu.
