We may have lost more than we have won but Filipinos learned the value of resilience a long time ago. Manny Pacquiao remained a relevant force both in and outside the ring while Donnie Nietes punched his way into the Philippine sports history books.

July 5 ? R.I.P.- 15 year old amateur boxer Gerry Estubo dies after competing in a fight held in Compostela Valley province .It was later reported on the website of EDGE Davao that the bout was not sanctioned by the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP)

December 22 - Northern Samar Representative Emil Ong files House Bill 5234 - ?Filipino Boxers? Benefits and Protection Act? - which aims to make boxers' purses tax exempt.

LOOKING FORWARD:

The year ended with a lot of chatter concerning Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather. But don?t be surprised if it winds up being idle gossip again.

Fans should expect title shots for Johnriel Casimero and Milan Melindo after they won their respective IBF eliminators. Denver Cuello and Brian Viloria are also on the hunt for another title shot.

ALA Promotions, with their star studded boxing stable, plan to stage more fight cards overseas. Their flagship and world champ, Donnie Nietes will ponder a move to 112 or stay at 108 and further extend his reign .

After his KO of the Year performance in Macau and avenging his lone career loss in New York, Marvin Sonsona made another disappearing act in the last quarter of the year. Will he continue his inexplicable hiatus in 2015?

Rey Loreto is headed for a rematch against Nkosinathi Joyi next year. We expect to see more of Randy Petalcorin. We also look forward to the return of Nonito Donaire.

There were Pinoy prospects this year who captured belts on the road like Daryl Basadre winning the WBC Youth bantam title in Japan, Raymond Tabugon acquiring the IBO Intercontinental jr.flyweight belt in South Africa and Dennis Laurente getting the OPBF light middleweight title in Japan. We look ahead to more Filipino contenders proving their worth on foreign soil.
