WBC and RING flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez (41-0-0, 35KO) of Nicaragua stopped Filipino contender Rocky Fuentes (35-8-2, 20KO) in the 6th round in Yokohama, Japan moments ago.
A right to the jaw dropped Fuentes in the third minute of the sixth round and after the Filipino beat the count, the extremely busy and accurate Gonzalez finished Fuentes with a flurry as the referee stopped the fight.
Gonzalez, the top man in the flyweight division and rated No. 9 on the pound for pound list by RING, cruised to his 41st victory and 35th knockout win and has now defended his WBC flyweight belt successfully for the first time after wresting the belt from Japan's Akira Yaegashi last September. Gonzalez previously held the WBA light flyweight and minimumweight titles.
Fuentes failed in his second world title bid after losing to Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand last January for the IBF flyweight belt.
