CEBU CITY ? The sight of foreign boxers showing their stuff has become a regular and welcome part of big fights here in the boxing capital of the Philippines. These public workouts captured new fans and also managed to hold the interest of the astute Cebuano boxing fans.
Mexican challenger Carlos Velarde (26W-3L-1D,14KO?s) together with his countrymen Saul Juarez (20-3,11KO?s), Raul Hirales (22W-3L-1D, 11KOs) and unified WBO/IBF minimumweight champ Francisco Rodriguez,Jr (16-2,11KO?s) shadow boxed in front of an admiring crowd inside the Robinson?s Mall Wednesday evening to help promote the much anticipated PINOY PRIDE XXVIII: HISTORY IN THE MAKING set this Saturday at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.
?Chapito? Velarde will be looking to spoil the party when he engages the second longest reigning champion in Philippine boxing history, Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes (33W-1L-4D,19KO?s) of the ALA Gym. Nietes - aside from defending his WBO jr.flyweight world crown ? seeks to break the seven year three month barrier set by the great Flash Elorde. Velarde bared during the presscon held Tuesday that he has other plans.

Albert Pagara?s unbeaten streak in their IBF Intercontinental junior featherweight clash while Rodriguez is moving up in weight and will face Jomar Fajardo.
Indonesian Faris Nenggo and Korean Moon-sun Jung also made an appearance for their bouts against former champ Merlito Sabillo and Mark ?Magnifico? Magsayo respectively.
Fans got to pose with the boxers for photos after the workout. The official weigh-in will also be held at Robinson?s Fuente on Friday noon.
